Whoa! Damn, Gina! this year isn’t bad after all because, for Apple, 2020 is the year of 5G, we hope you saved enough budget for your next iPhone upgrade because this will surely be worth every penny.
On Tuesday, Oct 13, Apple Inc announced four new iPhones in a virtual event — the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 Pro, the iPhone 12 Pro Max and a new, smaller, iPhone 12 mini. All the phones are 5G-equipped, meaning they can connect to the next-generation high-speed wireless networks.
“This is a huge moment for all of us and we’re really excited”, Apple CEO Tim Cook said.
Apple will be hoping that its historically loyal user base will continue to shell out the big bucks to upgrade, even as the coronavirus pandemic continues to ravage the economy and forces millions to stay home. The cheapest phone in its new lineup — the iPhone 12 mini — starts at $699, while the top-of-the-line iPhone 12 Pro Max — Apple’s biggest ever smartphone at 6.7 inches — will start at $1099.
The iPhone 12 and 12 mini will be available in five beautiful aluminum finishes, including blue, green, black, white, and red. Pre-orders for iPhone 12 begin Friday, October 16, with store availability beginning Friday, October 23. iPhone 12 mini will be available for pre-order beginning Friday, November 6, and in stores beginning Friday, November 13.
iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini introduce a beautiful new design packed with innovative features, including A14 Bionic, an advanced dual-camera system, and a Super Retina XDR display with the Ceramic Shield front cover.

“The arrival of 5G marks the beginning of a new era for iPhone and we’re thrilled to bring these impressive new capabilities to our customers with iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini”, said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
“We’re once again pushing the boundaries to deliver incredible computational photography advancements, Super Retina XDR displays, and the biggest leap in durability in iPhone history with the new Ceramic Shield front cover. Available in two great sizes, iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini take design to a new level in a new form factor that’s as beautiful as it is durable, and makes it easier than ever for customers to find the perfect iPhone to fit their lifestyle”. Greg, SVP of World Marketing added in a statement.

Let’s get into the iPhone details.
The iPhone 12 gets a new flat-edged design, similar to the new iPads. It gets a 6.1-inch screen with a resolution of 2532×1170 with 460ppi. There are two rear 12MP cameras, for Ultrawide and Wide. The front camera is also 12MP. There are three internal memory storage options to choose from: 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB.
Right beside the iPhone 12, is the iPhone 12 mini. It features a 5.4-inch screen and looks just like a smaller version of the iPhone 12. Because it has a smaller screen, it’s pixel density is bigger with 476ppi. Everything else, processor, cameras, storage, are the same as the standard iPhone 12.
The iPhone 12 Pro also gets a 6.1-inch screen with 2532×1170 resolution at 460ppi. It also uses an A14 Bionic chip. Three 12MP rear cameras for Ultrawide, Wide, and Telephoto. It’s also IP68 and bigger storage options: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB.

Last year, if you thought the Pro Max was massive, it gets bigger. The iPhone 12 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch screen with 2778×1284 resolution at 458ppi. Everything else is the same as the iPhone 12 Pro.
Apple has pointed out that these iPhones are their toughest yet, with the introduction of “Ceramic Shield,” which they claim will better protect the devices’ screens.
All four iPhones have OLED for their screens, which Apple likes to call Super Retina XDR display. They have IP68, meaning it’s water and dust resistant. They are powered by Apple’s new A14 Bionic chipset, which they claim delivers 40% faster than the A13.
